Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Wanderlust Grooming different from other groomers?

At Wanderlust, we strive for excellence and quality. Each appointment is tailored to meet your pet's unique needs, and everything is included in the price - from nail grinding to specialty shampoos. Our groomers are dedicated to ongoing education and stay updated on the latest techniques and products. Our owner is a Nationally Certified Master Groomer, International Award Winning Groomer, and Fear Free Groomer. We are passionate about our industry, skilled in all breed standard and pet style trims and techniques, and will always treat your dog as if they are our own!

How often should my dog be groomed?

We recommend all breeds be groomed at least every 4-6 week to ensure their skin, coat, nails, ears, eyes, and sanitary areas stay well maintained. We may recommend a more/less frequent maintenance schedule based on your dog's lifestyle, coat type, and grooming style/length.

We open our online schedule for appointments 12 weeks in advance.

We have a new puppy, when should we have them groomed?

We recommend puppies be groomed as early as possible! It is extremely important to introduce them to the grooming process when they are young to ensure they have a positive association with grooming and become desensitized to the sights, sounds, smells, and sensations of a salon. We accept puppies as soon as they have their second set of puppy shots (typically around 12-14 weeks).

Our recommended puppy protocol is to schedule at least 1-2 Bath and Tidy appointments 3-6 weeks apart before giving them their first haircut, as a full length appointment can be overwhelming and difficult on a puppy who has never been professionally groomed before.

What is your cancellation/no show policy?

If you need to change or cancel your appointment, we respectfully request a minimum of 48 hours notice. If notice is given less than 48 hours before your appointment time, a $50 cancellation fee per pet will apply. No shows will be responsible for the $50 cancellation fee plus a 50% deposit will be required to schedule a new appointment, no exceptions. Our groomers earn commission based pay, and their livelihood relies on clients showing up to their scheduled appointments.

Please be aware that if you are more than 15 minutes late, we may not be able to provide the service for which you have been scheduled for and a cancellation fee will apply.

Why do you only text/email?

Our groomers work on each pet straight through from check-in to check out, making phone communication a challenge during business hours. Our goal is give the pets in our care and our families our undivided attention during our time spent both in salon and at home. We look forward to offering that same level of attention when we finally meet you and your pet! We can be reached via text or email during business hours.

My pet is matted, will you brush them out?

We do not offer full de-matting services as this can be painful and cause stress/anxiety. If your pet is matted, they will need to be shaved. Ears and tails that are not matted to the skin may be gently brushed out at the discretion of the groomer, and for an additional fee of $2/minute.

Is your salon cage-free?

While we are a low volume salon, we are not cage free, so dogs must be able to be kenneled to visit us. We limit kennel time by only scheduling one dog per groomer at a time, but there are times where your dog may need to be in a kennel for short periods. We never allow dogs from different families to interact with one another for safety reasons.

Will my dog be the only one in the salon?

No, we do not offer completely private grooming appointments. Each of our groomers only has one dog on their schedule at a time, but we do often have multiple groomers working at the same time, so there are other dogs in the building. We never allow dogs from other households to interact with one another, and if they are not on a grooming table/tub, they are secured in a kennel.

Do you have a weight limit?

Nope! We accept dogs of all sizes at our salon.

Do you groom cats?

We do not groom cats at this time.

Do you express anal glands/pluck ear hair/brush teeth/de-shed?

Anal Glands: We express anal glands by request only, and recommend you speak to your vet prior to requesting this service. *Additional $10 fee applies

Ear Plucking: We pluck ear hair by request, or for dogs who require ear plucking to keep mats from forming inside the ear.

Teeth Brushing: We use a foam to help freshen your dog's breath, but do not brush their teeth. For tooth brushing to be effective, it must be done regularly (daily or every couple of days), so having it done occasionally by groomers is not beneficial.

De-shedding: We automatically include de-shedding for every pet who requires it.

I'm used to paying $x for grooming, why do you charge $x?

At Wanderlust Grooming, our pricing reflects our commitment to providing comprehensive, all-inclusive services for your pet's needs. This means no additional fees for essential services like high quality shampoo, conditioner, breath freshening, nail grinding, and express grooming.

Furthermore, we maintain a low volume, low stress environment, hold Fear Free Certification, and many of our groomers are Nationally Certified Master Groomers dedicated to ongoing education. These factors contribute to the value and quality of our services, while also aligning with the standards and costs of living in our area.

What if I can't pick up my dog within 1 hour of their appointment finishing?

To maintain our low volume, one on one business model, each time slot is reserved specifically for each pet. We request that you plan accordingly to ensure you are able to pick up your pet within our 1 hour time frame to avoid a $10 fee per additional 30 minutes. We may be able to accommodate a later pickup with advanced approval on a case by case basis. Please inquire about this service when making your appointment (last minute or same day requests can not be accommodated).

How long do appointments take?

Appointment lengths will vary based on your pet's breed, size, coat type, behavior, style, length, and time since last grooming. In general, most Bath & Brush appointments take between 30 minutes - 2 hours, and Full Haircut appointments take between 1-3 hours.
